CAMERA INDEX Ricoh FF-1 Word of my camera-collection has somehow spread and I was given this as a gift from an Internet friend. This is a camera that closely resembles the classic Minox 35 and it is a very small and light camera. It easily fits in your pocket and is light enough to always carry with you. Experts have said that the lens on this camera is not as sharp as the one on the Minox 35, but that this camera has better build quality. I have never owned a Minox myself, mostly because I'm not a fan of scale focusing. So it's difficult for me to judge whether the comparison is true. All I can do is give some comments on this camera. This camera is probably all plastic considering the weight, however it feels like a quality plastic and the camera feels quite solid and well constructed. The folding lens seems like an obvious weakness, but it feels quite solid all things considered. Of course, it's difficult to say how true that is and what would happen if I were to drop the camera with the lens folded out for instance... Handling is easy enough with scale focusing from 0,9 meters to infinity in five steps. Aperture can be set automatically or manually and shutter speed is automatic. There is a manual ASA-setting, a flash hotshoe and a connector for a wire shutter release. I intend to try this camera out and I guess I'll be keeping it in my bag or pocket all the time for a while.
