CAMERA INDEX Praktica Nova PL 1B This camera you could call an inheritance. It was given to my father in 1968 when he turned 25. A year ago he wanted to get rid of the camera and considered throwing it away. Luckily for me he knew about my camera collection and i acceptet the whole bag of equipment (minus the actual bag which had already been thrown away). In the package was the camera itself, three lenses (Domiplan 50mm f2,8, Domiplan 30mm f2,8 and Orestegor 200mm f4) and one flash unit. Having seen many photos taken with this camera from the late sixties and well into the 1990's i know that this is a competent camera. The uncoupled selenium light meter has unfortunately given up so it requires an external meter (or fingerspitzen-gefühl). But of course, many of the cameras i have require a separate meter. This camera was built in Dresden in then DDR by Pentacon, a DDR successor to for instance Zeiss Ikon. Over 800.000 units were produced of the Nova 1-models. The camera itself feels fairly rugged and is quite heavy. It is, of course, mostly metal as are the lenses. The Orestegor 200mm lens is especially quite heavy. Usage is fairly standard fare compared to most other SLR:s from this time. The M42 mount is of course interesting since it allows the use of a wide range of lenses. For instance on the photos below the camera is fitted with the Russian 44mm f2 lens taken from my Zenit E. I have taken one roll with this camera but i haven't yet uploaded anything to the website, although i plan to do so in the future. Camera data
