CAMERA INDEX Minolta Dynax 500si This is my Minolta plastic-fantastic SLR that i got as a graduation present in 1998. A camera that served me well through many years, on different travels and in different conditions. I have used this camera in the Swedish mountains, in Australia and Singapore. In rain, snow and heat. It looks like cheap plastic, it feels like cheap plastic but it does hold up very well and i have never had any problems with the camera. I have switched the batteries only twice. Of course on an SLR the lenses usually mean just as much as the camera itself, and the kit-lens i got with this camera (also plastic) has served me well. I use it on my Sony DLSR now with great results. I would say that the main selling point of this camera is it's low weight. I dream of having a DSLR this light and easy to lug around. Buttons are where you expect them to be, AF is fast and accurate and changing lenses is a breeze. I basically used this camera until i bought a digital superzoom camera from Minolta in 2004. Gradually i moved over to digital photography and this camera has more or less been gathering dust since. It still works though and some of the lenses i had for it are in service with my Sony A350 DSLR. Info about the lenses (the ones i still have) is found under the Sony section of the site. Camera data
