CAMERA INDEX Leica M3 Owning a Leica has been a bit of a dream for a long time. Usually I don't spend any money on my camera collection, rather I just buy the things that catch my eye and can be had for very little money. But in the Leica-case this is not really possible since even wrecks cost a lot of money, a couple of hundred USD at least. So I have been waiting and watching for the right moment. I got this camera from a man who was selling his fathers camera collection. It's an M3 in decent shape which probably hasn't been used in a long time. But still everything works pretty smoothly and besides a few scuff-marks and a bump or two it's in pretty good shape. Not for the discerning collector maybe, but for me it's good enough. Especially since I intend to use the camera and it would be a shame to use a mint camera. The camera is a wonder to work with. Everything feels rock solid, is smooth and cooperative. It's heavy without being cumbersome and ergonomics are great. There is of course no built-in metering but I invested in a matching Leicameter MR which works great with a PX625 Wein Cell. It really gives the camera a lot more class than my plastic Gossen Digisix meter. It's a good meter as well, it meters well and exposures are fine. The only problem right now is lenses. Some people prefer 35mm wide-angles with their cameras while I am more of a 50mm-guy for general photography. Right now the only 50mm that I have for the Leica is the cumbersome Canon 50mm f1,2 in LTM. An impressive lens in itself, but one that adds considerably to the camera's weight. Camera data
