CAMERA INDEX Contax G1 When i saw this camera on an ad site i just knew i had to have it. I didn't know exactly what i was getting into, but the words "Contax" and "Carl Zeiss" made up my mind very quickly. I wouldn't go too far if i called this my favorite camera of all the stuff in my collection. Sure, it should have been a G2 and i should have the 28mm CZ Biogon lens, but this is still the finest piece of camera equipment that i own. An autofocus rangefinder with semi-automatic handling, the build quality of gods and tack sharp lenses. I have used the G1 quite extensively and have taken a bunch of rolls with it. Like every camera it has it's ups and downs. The up is that it is a very competent camera, capable of very sharp and vivid images. It's a beauty to behold and easy to work with. The down is the autofocus system which takes some getting used to. Usually about one or two photos per roll are not focused correctly, and the way i see it that's on par with my manual-focus cameras. I own two lenses for this camera, the 45mm f/2 Planar and the 90mm f/2.8 Sonnar. It is not an action camera since the AF can't possibly keep up with quick-moving subjects, but for street photography, portraits and general use this is a beautiful camera. My camera was in mint condition (slightly more "used" now) and the lenses are like new. It had been used very sparsely, for which i am grateful. Since it is a late series camera it also has the ROM update to use all the lenses except the Vario-Sonnar which only works on the G2. Camera data
